__Weight Management First Steps__

Join us for this free, informative seminar as we discuss strategies for beginning the process of health improvement and weight management on Monday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m., and Thursday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m., at HealthPoint Plaza, 2126 Independence in Cape. Nutrition, physical activity and behavior modification will be discussed and you will receive details about the options HealthPoint Fitness offers to assist with this challenging effort. You will learn how our individualized approach evaluates your current fitness level, personal goals and medical issues before recommending any weight loss or fitness program. The program includes: Starting Point and Biometrics Weight Loss Programs; Nutritional Coaching; Personal Training; and more. Register online at SEhealth.org/classes-events or call 573-986-4440.

__Vascular Screenings__

You may be at risk of a preventable, life-threatening condition and not realize it. These convenient vascular screenings take as little as 15 minutes each and the results are mailed to you within two weeks after being read by a Missouri board-certified physician. Choose from the Carotid Artery Test for prevention of stroke ($50), Abdominal Aorta Test for prevention of aneurysm ($50) and Peripheral Artery Test for prevention of peripheral artery disease and atherosclerosis ($50). If you choose to have all three tests, the cost is $110. A Bone Density Test is also available to identify those at risk of osteoporosis and osteopenia for $30. Dec. 3, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at HealthPoint Fitness, 2126 Independence in Cape Girardeau.

Dec. 4, Noon-6 p.m. at HealthPoint Fitness, 410 West Main in Jackson.

Dec. 5, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella Dr. in Sikeston.

__Sounds of the Season__

The 24th Annual Sounds of the Season, a benefit concert featuring some of the best musical talent in the area, will usher in the holidays on Sunday, Dec. 8. The event begins at 3 p.m. at Cape First Church, 254 South Silver Springs Road, Cape Girardeau and supports local cancer patients in need at Southeast Cancer Center. Performers include Jerry Ford Orchestra with Tina Trickey, Dr. Andrew Moore, Steve Schaffner and Crystal Britt, Clay Hahs and Casey Janet Mills, Alma Schrader 4th Grade Choir, the SEMO Brass Quintet and more! __Mended Hearts__

The local Mended Hearts chapter is part of a nationwide heart patient support network. The chapter will meet Tuesday, Dec. 10, 6-7 p.m., in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital. Membership is open to heart disease patients and their families, medical and other healthcare professionals, and anyone who has an interest in furthering the mission and objectives of the Mended Hearts group. __Diabetes Self-Management Support Group__

Southeast Diabetes Center hosts this free support group facilitated by Southeast’s Diabetes Educators. The programs are geared toward people who are living with diabetes and trying to control blood glucose. Friends and family members are also welcome. This month’s meeting will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape. Join us for a Winter Celebration as we celebrate this special time of the year and prepare to ring in the New Year! __Sibling Class Set for About to Be Big Brothers, Sisters__

Sibling Class, scheduled Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital, is designed to help children prepare, in a positive way, for the addition of a new family member. The class includes an entertaining video, hands on experience with life size infant dolls, a tour of the OB unit, creating a special memento, and a tasty snack. Parents are welcome to stay and observe the class. This class is geared toward children ages 3 to 8. Class size is limited. Register online at SEhealth.org/Events or by calling (573)331-6190.

__Starting Point Informational Meeting__

Starting Point is a medically-supervised program for rapid and safe weight loss with skill building to help you learn how to keep off the weight that you have lost. The emphasis is on health and weight management, not dieting. And since the program has medical supervision, it is ideal for those with or without pre-existing medical conditions. To learn more, attend an informational meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape.
