Sheriff's department patrolman involved in Tuesday accident

A Butler County Sheriff’s officer was involved in a two-vehicle crash resulting in minor injuries for the other driver at 1:48 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, on Missouri 158 in Harviell.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Damien L. Smith, 23, of Ellsinore — who is a road officer with the sheriff’s department — was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Caprice eastbound when he failed to yield and crossed into the path of a 2011 Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound and operated by Teona R. Radish, 27, of Poplar Bluff.

Radish sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said Smith was on duty at the time of the accident and was driving a patrol vehicle.

According to the report, Smith’s vehicle was extensively damaged.
