While the presidential election is heading into our collective rearview mirrors, another local election is coming up ahead.
In April, area voters will decide who will sit on school boards and city representatives.
A Poplar Bluff use tax also is expected to be on the ballot, although that decision isn’t official yet.
For all races, filing opens Tuesday and will continue through Jan. 19
Poplar Bluff City Council
Two Poplar Bluff City Council seats are up for election; the Ward 2 seat, currently held by Ed DeGaris, and the Ward 4 seat held by Shane Cornman.
Those interested in running can apply from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on weekdays at Poplar Bluff City Hall at 501 Vine St. Hours will be extended to 5 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Fisk City Council
There also will be two Fisk City Council seats open for election; one from Ward 1 and the other from Ward 2.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays at Fisk City Hall at 508 Garfield St. The office will be closed for lunch and on holidays.
Qulin Alderman
There are three seats open for Qulin Alderman positions open in this election cycle; two for Ward 1 and one from Ward 2.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. until noon or 1-5 p.m. on weekdays at Qulin City Hall at 481 Second St.
Neelyville City Council
Neelyville residents will have one council seat and the mayor open for election.
It is a Ward 2 council seat.
Candidates can file from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays at Neelyville City Hall at 150 Park St.
Poplar Bluff R-I
Two Poplar Bluff R-I School Board seats will be up during the election
Those interested in filing for a seat need to go to Central Office, at 1110 N. Westwood Blvd. On the first and last days of filing, the office will have extended hours from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The office will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dec. 16-18, Jan. 4-8 and Jan. 11-15 for filing.
Candidates must wear face masks/coverings and observe district infection control rules at the time of filing.
The seats currently held by Tim Gaebler and Ken Davis are open for election.
Neelyville R-IV
Two Neelyville R-IV School Board will be elected.
Those interested can file at the Central Office, at 289 Broadway St. in Neelyville.
On the first and last day of filing, the office will have extended hours from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Otherwise, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays.
The office will be closed Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 for winter break.
The seats currently held by Gene Russon and Jim Hover are up for election.
Twin Rivers R-X
Two Twin Rivers R-X School Board seats are up for election.
People interested can file at Central Office, at 9348 Highway 51 in Broseley, during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The office will be closed from Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 for winter break.
On the last day of filing, Jan. 19, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The seats currently are held by Keith Parker and Donna Sue Ashcraft-Fincher.
