A structure fire reported shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday at 729 Mill St. is being investigated by the Missouri State Fire Marshal.

Battalion Chief Stacy Harmon’s report stated the alarm came in at 9:42 p.m., with crews from the three fire stations arriving on the scene between four and six minutes later. A total of eight firefighters spent two hours at the scene. The final officer left at 12:42 a.m. Sunday.

The single story, 1,000-square-foot ranch house had heavy flames coming from two sides of the structure, Harmon said. A crew breeched the front door of the wood-frame structure and a second group forced open another door to attack the flames.

The vacant structure was unsecured, according to Harmon’s report.

The owner is David Huff of rural Poplar Bluff, the report stated.

Firefighters used 5,000 gallons of water to put out the fire. The crews used the thermal imaging camera and ventilation devices to make certain the fire was out.

Fire personnel on the scene were Harmon, Steven R. Burkhead, Cade Lowe, Eric Mierisch, Josh Robison, Joseph Somers, Adam Yeley and Fire Chief Mike Moffitt.

Municipal Utilities and the Poplar Bluff Police Department were also present.
