CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Saint Francis Medical Center’s Emergency and Trauma Center has been recertified as the only state-designated Level III Trauma Center in southeast Missouri.
“This designation as a Level III Trauma Center demonstrates our continued commitment to provide the highest quality care when our patients need it most,” said Dr. Maryann Reese, president and chief executive officer of Saint Francis Healthcare System. “Providing these life-saving services is part of how we live our Mission to serve the community at the most critical, life-changing moments.”
To earn a Level III Trauma Designation, Saint Francis passed a rigorous comprehensive quality assessment and demonstrated the ability to provide 24-hour immediate coverage by emergency physicians, prompt availability of general surgeons and anesthesiologists, transfer agreements for patients requiring more comprehensive care at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center and provision of continuing education for trauma center nurses and personnel.
“Our highly experienced, in-house specialists are specially trained in advanced cardiac life support, trauma resuscitation and pediatrics in order to support Saint Francis’ physicians around the clock,” said Chad Garner, director of Emergency and Trauma Services at Saint Francis. “We work diligently to provide our best care for the approximately 43,500 patients we treat annually in the Emergency and Trauma Center.”
The Level III designation will be valid for five years until another on-site survey revalidation.
