Recreational marijuana taxes passed in five area communities Tuesday.
Butler, Ripley and Stoddard counties, as well as the cities of Doniphan, Dexter and Malden sought a 3% tax on the retail sales of adult use marijuana.
Results for Malden were not available as of press time, but the other communities passed the tax easily (see graphic above), according to uncertified results released by county clerks.
The state collects a 6% tax for itself. Counties and cities have the option to seek the voter approval for the tax.
Recreational sales were approved in November for residents 21 and older.
Since the sales began in February, state officials have said approximately $73 million in recreational marijuana have been sold. Sales topping $1 billion are projected by the end of the year.
