A 23-year-old Poplar Bluff woman died at a local hospital Monday night after she was hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
At about 7:40 p.m., an unknown northbound vehicle left the road on Highway 53, about three miles south of Poplar Bluff, and struck Wendy L. Dumas, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
Dumas was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m. by a doctor there.
Dumas is the seventh fatality in Troop E this year.
