Officers responded to the 300 block of West Henry Street shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday to find a Poplar Bluff man suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

According to Poplar Bluff Police Lt. Josh Stewart, the victim was identified as Quincel McGuire Jr.

McGuire told officers he was shot by someone however he was not forthcoming with additional information.

“We’re still reviewing area surveillance, trying to see if we can locate exactly where it occurred and any suspect information. Our officers contacted some potential witnesses, but they basically just heard a single gunshot and they didn’t actually see anything,” said Stewart.

He stated the victim had knocked on several doors after being shot, before one resident opened their door for him and contacted authorities.

He explained at the time they made contact with McGuire, he was outside on the front porch of the residence which assisted him, “so at this point we’re unsure whether the actual shooting occurred inside a residence or outside on the street.”

McGuire was initially transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to the neck, and later transferred via Air Evac to a hospital in St. Louis. It was believed as of Wednesday afternoon the victim was in critical but stable condition.
