Authorities are investigating a Friday evening shooting that sent a local man to the hospital with a gunshot to his arm.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department was contacted at about 6:30 p.m. regarding a shooting on Hart Street, said Lt. Josh Stewart.

The victim, Stewart said, has been identified as Michael Childress, 19, of Poplar Bluff.

Childress told investigators he was "somewhere between the 700 and 800 block of Hart Street ... attempting to locate a friend's residence" when he was shot, Stewart explained.

Childress was inside a pickup when "the round went through the driver's side door and struck him in the left arm, just above the elbow," Stewart said.

Emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene, "treating him for a short time (and then) transported him to a local hospital," Stewart said.

Investigators, he said, searched the area, but did not find any shell casings, "which could have been due to the firearm being a revolver."

Stewart said the officers also looked for broken glass as the round broke out the truck's door glass.

"They talked to several people at several different residences in the area," Stewart said. "Several told them they heard a shot; however, none had actually witnessed the incident."

No suspect has been identified at this time and further details are unknown, he said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the police department at 573-785-5776.
