A mother is in jail after police say her seven-week-old infant was killed by severe head trauma.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department report officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Kinzer Street regarding a possible infant death at around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The seven-week-old infant had already been transported to an area hospital by the time they arrived, according to reports. Investigators said they were informed at the hospital that the child had passed away. It was determined the child had suffered severe head trauma, indicative of abuse, police said in a press release.

Following an investigation, the child’s mother, Alisha Ivy, 28, of Poplar Bluff was placed under arrest. She was lodged at the Butler County jail pending review of the case by the Butler County Prosecutor.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19.
