A dream team of cardiologists, primary care doctors and other experts fielded attendees’ questions at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center’s Heart Health Lunch and Learn.

PBRMC hosted the event on Friday at the Holiday Inn on North Westwood Boulevard. According to the hospital’s director of marketing, Nicole Neidenberg, over 100 residents visited the event.

“It was very well attended,” she confirmed.

Attendees were treated to a heart-healthy lunch, free blood pressure screenings and the advice of an expert panel.

The panel included Dr. Hector Dox, a cardiothoracic surgeon helping to build PBRMC’s growing cardiology department. Dox discussed the intersection of preventative care and the diverse possibilities for interventional procedures. Also included on the panel were doctors David Wood and Roland Njoh. They were joined by Rodney Brown, director of Cardiology Services, and David Ross, manager of the Butler County EMS.

PBRMC Chief Executive Officer Clyde Wood made it a priority to attend the event.

The event took place amid growing concerns about the frequency of heart disease nationally and locally.

Dr. Michael Lim of the hospital’s cardiology department clarified, “Unfortunately, here in our Butler County community, and many others, the rate appears much higher.”

The luncheon served as part of PBRMC’s broader Leap into Heart Health awareness program. Residents seeking more information on how to lower their risk of heart disease can sign up for an informative newsletter at pbrmc.com/heart-challenge.
