JEFFERSON CITY - There's no better way to develop leadership skills than to practice, practice, practice. That is exactly what Aaron Taylor, rising sophomore student at Poplar Bluff High School, will find out this summer by attending the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Leadership in Practice program.
Aaron will join more than 150 high school students who were selected as future leaders from schools across the state. Held from June 25 to 28, 2017, on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, Mo., Leadership in Practice is designed to provide young Missourians with the opportunity to learn what it takes to be an effective leader in their schools, communities and in life.
The student was nominated by Poplar Bluff High School and is being sponsored by the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce.
"They will be immersed in leadership activities that simulated real-life situations," said Dan Mehan, Missouri Chamber President and CEO. "Working in small groups, the students will develop business plans, challenge each other in international debate, develop a deeper understanding of civic engagement and at the end of the program, have a better understanding of how to effectively lead."
The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce applauds this future leader from Poplar Bluff and the potential that he will bring to this summer's statewide leadership development program. Leadership In Practice is part of a youth leadership educational program that was created by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce in 1962. It is supported in part by state businesses, local chambers of commerce and civic organizations.
