Poplar Bluff High School Junior William Montgomery has been selected for a trip many can only dream of.

After making all-district band playing the tuba, the Missouri Ambassadors of Music invited Montgomery to perform on a 15-day tour in Europe in June and July.

Destinations include England, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He will join approximately 200 other talented Missouri musicians at historic churches, cathedrals and public squares.

Montgomery is most excited to visit iconic sites such as the Eiffel Tower. For him, a trip to Europe has been a lifelong ambition.

“The coolest part is being able to see all the places,” Montgomery recounted.

To his knowledge, he is the only musician from Butler County selected to go.

The hardest work is yet to come to make this trip a reality. Montgomery balances school with a part-time job to help finance the expedition. His family pitched in and coordinated two large yard sales, according to his father Chris.

As of the time of this article, Montgomery is within $2,300 of his goal. He set up a GoFundMe which can be found at gofund.me/ad97e12f.

His father wrote in the fundraiser’s description, “Please consider helping us pay for Will to visit Europe next summer. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for him.”

Montgomery is grateful for the generosity of those who have already committed to supporting this unique opportunity for cultural exchange and ambassadorship. This young musician is eager to represent Poplar Bluff on the world stage.
