The Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1954 recently held its 65th reunion. There were classmates in attendance from Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee.
A Dutch-treat breakfast was held at Myrtle’s restaurant that morning. The evening a social hour and banquet was enjoyed in the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce Community Room. A class picture was taken before the evening meal.
After the meal, classmates were welcomed by Betty Absheer who read a short poem and she asked for a moment of silence for the deceased classmates, followed by the reading of their names.
Don Robertson addressed the class and numbers were drawn for some small prizes.
Don talked about Mrs. Pauline Hearne as she was a special teacher to this class. She died earlier this year. The book made for the reunion had a special picture of Mrs. Hearne in it as well as all of the past reunion pictures and one of the old Junior High and Senior High School taken in 1956.
For the last 15 years, a group of the classmates get together twice a month for breakfast and a dinner meal. Also, part of this group is Bill Kelly (class of 1953) and wife, JoAnn.
