A Poplar Bluff man is looking at several felony charges after he allegedly raped a Butler County woman in July.
Darnell J. Webb, 35, of the 100 block of Hampton Court is charged with the unclassified felony of first-degree rape, the Class B felony of first-degree kidnapping and the Class E felony of third-degree domestic assault. He was recently arrested on the charges and released this week on $100,000 bond.
According to the probable cause statement by Poplar Bluff Police Department Det. Daniel Mustain, the alleged victim contacted PBPD Patrolman Selena Torres at approximately 2 a.m. on July 6 in reference to a sexual assault. The alleged victim said Webb sexually assaulted her at his residence in the 100 block of Hampton Court.
The alleged victim said Webb contacted her via cellphone at 11:30 p.m. the night before and asked her to go to his residence to assist with something for a family member. The alleged victim said did, but when she was getting ready to leave, Webb would not allow her to leave.
The woman then said she grabbed a beer bottle from the bedroom floor and threatened to strike Webb with it if he did not allow her to leave. She said she flipped the table over that was located in front of a bedroom door and tried to leave.
Webb allegedly followed her, stopped her, struck her on top of the head twice with his fist and placed her in a chokehold.
The woman said the pair continued in a physical altercation, and that when she was unable to escape, she was assaulted.
She later left the house, contacted family and sought medical care, according to reports.
Webb was interviewed by Mustain on July 8, at which time he said the sex between himself and the alleged victim was consensual.
A witness in the home confirmed several elements of the woman’s statement, according to authorities.
