Saturday is the day when Ozark Border Electric Cooperative members from around the region will have a say in who sits on the rural power provider’s Board of Directors for the next three years.

The annual meeting kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Bess Activity Center on the campus of Three Rivers College, and voting will begin immediately.

“Registration starts at 9, and members can vote any time between 9 and 12,” said Ozark Border General Manager David Schremp.

Four board positions, one for each of the cooperative’s districts, will be on the ballot, Schremp said, though three are unopposed. In District 3, Vince Lampe and Bill Hager are vying for the position.

Besides the voting, Schremp said, the day promises to be fun. Every member who registers will receive a gift bag, plus there will be two drawings for other goodies.

“As long as you registered, you don’t have to be present to win,” Schremp said.

As in years past, free hot dogs and sodas will be served to all attendees.

Local entertainment is a popular and enjoyable facet of the meeting each year, and this year will be no different.

“The Brothers Walker will be our entertainment this year,” Schremp noted.

The guest speaker will be Joe Wilkinson from Associated Electric in Springfield, Missouri, where Ozark Border purchases its power. With about 40 electric cooperatives across the state and a lot of factors influencing their operations, Wilkinson’s presentation promises to be valuable for members.

Ozark Border representatives, Schremp said, also will be on hand to “address customer needs and answer questions.”

A business meeting, open to all members, will begin at 12:20 p.m.

“It’s always a great day, and we look forward to meeting with members one-on-one,” said Schremp. “We’re always glad to have our members attend, and we encourage them to vote.”
