“I was injured in April and we knew that I had to make some serious life changes,” said Samantha Krueger, manager of the new store On A Whim that recently opened in Poplar Bluff.

“I have always been interested in teaching people about crystals and spirituality so my mother and I just kind of came up with this idea..... on a whim,” she laughed.

Velvet Krueger, with the help of her daughter Samantha, has brought a new business to Poplar Bluff.

On A Whim celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting last week.

The small shop, located at 1908 Suite B, N. Westwood Blvd., next to Vapor Maven, is a unique store specializing in crystals, jewelry, divination cards and apothecary items.

“It’s a total metaphysical shop, we do a lot of apothecary and crystals, a lot of jewelry,” said Samantha.

“She (Samantha) wire wraps, so she did all the wire wrapping on our wire-wrapped jewelry,” said Velvet proudly.

Glass jars labeled lavender, sage and mugwort, along with other dried herbs and spices line the counter next to the register.

The glass showcase displays handmade jewelry and crystals.

“We have foot scrubs, essential oils in rollers, jewelry, home decor and divination cards,” explained Samantha.

“We even have fossils,” said Velvet, pointing out a shell-like object inside the glass case, “a trilobite, those things are 3 million years old.”

Another shelf displays an array of sparkling crystals and rocks ranging from very small pieces to centerpiece-sized natural works of art, which are available for purchase.

“We try to keep all price ranges and we try to keep little stuff for kids, stuff for all ages little starter kits and boxes,” said Velvet.
