The Neelyville R-IV approved bids to clean up the softball field and construct a maintenance building at its monthly meeting Thursday night.

The softball field work received two bids, but the board approved one for $4,850 from Turf Renovations LLC, Superintendent Debra Parish said.

The work will include defining the dimensions of the field, defining the home plate/mound/bases, laser grading the infield, laying new dirt and rolling the end field as well as conditioning it.

The board also approved a bid from Scott Genn Construction for $26,820 for a new maintenance building on the Neelyville campus.

The shop will be a 30-by-40-by-12 feet metal building on the northwest side of the campus. It is being designed for storage of items such as tractors and lawn mowers with space to work on the equipment as needed.

The district’s current project is expected to be completed next month. Neelyville High School is constructing a new front office, which was started in August.

Parish said the site is being cleaned up this weekend for a walk through at the beginning of next week with the finisher to wrap everything up.

“We’re hoping to move in over Christmas vacation,” she said.

Election

Residents can start filing to run in the Neelyville R-IV school board on Dec. 17.

The election, which will be held April 7, has three seats open. The seats are currently held by Dean Fisher, Paul Petty and Shane Eaker. Members are elected for a three-year term.

The board meets once a month, typically on the third Thursday, although the date can change, to discuss goals and take action.

Those interested in running for a school board seat will be able to file at the central office in Neelyville between Dec. 17 and Jan. 21. On both dates, the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. In between, the office will be open for normal business hours between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The office will be closed when the school district is for holidays.

Audit

The board also heard from Dwayne Clark, CPA regarding its audit for the 2018-19 fiscal year. Parish said Clark told the board the district ended the year in a good financial state. It will be brought up at next month’s meeting for the board to approve the audit after the members have time to go over it.
