The Carter County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a home on Highway 21 South, outside the Grandin city limits, after reports of hearing alleged gunfire from neighbors.

According to Carter County Sheriff Richard Stephens, officers reported to the home of Justin R. Nance, 30, and his father Saturday morning.

Nance told officers no shots had been fired and "everything was fine," Stephens reported.

The Carter County Sheriff's Department has reported to the residence several times over the past couple weeks, Stephens said, in regards to alleged issues with Nance stemming from Tennessee.

Nance was staying with his father, who wanted him out of the house, Stephens said.

"He said he was not leaving without a warrant," Stephens said.

With concern for the safety of the occupants and neighbors, Stephens said, officers remained at the scene until a warrant was obtained for property damage.

Nance was taken into custody without incident on property damage in the first degree and booked at the Carter County jail. A bond of $25,000 has been set.

Stephens reported no signs of gunfire were found at the scene by Carter County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Justin Eudaley.

"I felt like the officers of the Carter County Sheriff's Department and Highway Patrol acted professionally and erred on the side of caution and constitutionality," Stephens said. "They did a great job."
