An inmate has reported an alleged assault in a holding cell at the Stoddard County Justice Center.
According to a release from Sheriff Carl Hefner, the inmate reported he was assaulted on March 22 by a Stoddard County deputy while in a
holding cell. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation, Hefner said.
The incident was investigated by the Division of Drug and Crime of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and has been forwarded to the Missouri Attorney General’s Office for review.
MSHP Sgt. Clark Parrott said the case was over to a special prosecutor after the investigation was completed. The special prosecutor will determine if charges will be filed in the case.
Hefner said Thursday he could not comment further on the matter.
