While many questions remain to be answered, there are now more details concerning the events that led to the shooting death of Matthew Wilkerson on Tuesday.
Information made available from the probable cause affidavit that was filed with the court reveals more specific information regarding the shooting.
While different accounts of what happened were told to authorities during the initial investigation, officers believe the alleged shooter, Lesa Alcorn, fired at least five 9-mm rounds during the commission of the shooting.
The report states deputies found Wilkerson’s body lying on the ground under an attached carport at the residence on County Road 544. Wilkerson’s body was discovered with Glock 43 located between both of his hands, authorities said.
According to the report, deputies recovered six spent 9-mm shell casings near the entrance of the residence where the shooting occurred.
The probable cause affidavit contains information from Alcorn, as well as Wilkerson’s daughter — who lives at the residence where the shooting occurred — and both accounts are similar in tone.
According to the two separate accounts, Alcorn had been staying at the residence with her son and Wilkerson’s daughter to help care for their 6-month-old child. Alcorn was the only person named in court documents, all other individuals were listed by their initials and relationships.
The reports appear to coincide with accounts that both Alcorn and Wilkerson’s daughter had an altercation some time after 4 .m., when Wilkerson’s daughter arrived home from work. During the altercation, Wilkerson’s daughter reportedly told Alcorn to leave the residence, and Alcorn refused. Wilkerson’s daughter then reportedly attempted to take her infant daughter with her away from the house, and Alcorn refused to allow her to leave.
According to the statement given by Wilkerson’s daughter, she had called Wilkerson and informed him of the dispute and that she was unable to leave the residence. She reportedly also informed her father that Alcorn had a firearm. Wilkerson’s daughter also informed officers that Alcorn had stated that she would shoot and kill Wilkerson.
According to the report, Wilkerson arrived and was standing under the carport while he and Alcorn yelled back and forth at each other. Wilkerson’s daughter stated she had gotten between Alcorn and Wilkerson in an attempt to deescalate the situation. She stated she moved from her position near the doorway to the residence in an attempt to get her father to take a walk with her and separate him from the situation; and it was at that time that Wilkerson’s daughter said Alcorn fired numerous shots at Wilkerson.
The report goes on to say Wilkerson fell to the ground and Alcorn allegedly shut the door to the house briefly and “opened the door shortly after and fired additional shots toward Wilkerson’s body.”
Fearing for her life, Wilkerson’s daughter stated she ran to the neighbor’s house and urged them to call 911.
According to the statement Alcorn provided, Wilkerson had his pistol in his right hand while they were yelling at each other. Alcorn informed officers Wilkerson “lunged” in her direction, which prompted her to fire her weapon at him until he fell.
Alcorn reportedly told officers Wilkerson hadn’t pointed his firearm at her at any time, but she believed that he intended to. Alcorn reportedly told officers that after the shooting, she “cleared the chamber and placed the live round back into the magazine.”
Alcorn was initially charge with second degree murder, but she now also faces the additional felony charge of armed criminal action. She is currently being held at the Butler County jail without bond.
