The State of Missouri recently recognized auctioneers by proclaiming Missouri Auctioneers Day.

The proclamation reads as follows:

Whereas, auctioneers is one of history's oldest professions; and

Whereas, auctions are strong advocates and champions of the competitive free enterprise system; and

Whereas, auctions continue to be an effective means of establishing fair market value; and

Whereas, the auction industry today contributes approximately a quarter-trillion dollars in sales each year to the United States economy; and

whereas, auctioneers create a competitive marketplace and connect buyers with sellers wishing to sell their assets for the highest dollar value; and

Whereas, the National Auctioneers Association and its members strive to advance the auction method of marketing and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in serving the American public; and

Whereas, auctioneers are proud business owners who support their communities; and

Whereas, a National Auctioneers Day has been observed for more than 25 years by state and local governments and private organizations; and

Whereas, the designation of National Auctioneers Day by the State of Missouri will heighten the awareness of the contributions made by auctions and auctioneers to the history of our Nation and its economy.

Now therefore, I, Eric R. Greitens, governor of the State of Missouri, do hereby proclaim April 15, 2017, to be Missouri Auctioneers Day and call upon the community and partner organizations to celebrate with appropriate ceremonies to acknowledge these efforts.
