Entries are being accepted now for the 31st Annual Pictures By the People contest at Margaret Harwell Art Museum.
Framed photographs and entry fees have to be turned in by Aug. 27. Submissions will be the featured show Sept. 7-28 at the museum.
The competition is later this year to accommodate a July and August show by artist Paul Jackson, who recently completed a mural on the campus of Three Rivers College, said Steve Whitworth, museum director.
This event is an opportunity for photographers of all skill types to test their work against others, said Whitworth.
Photography is a challenging medium that requires attention to many details to reflect how a subject is captured in the image, said Whitworth.
"Each photograph is a design, frozen moments," said Whitworth. "It captures that moment in time and preserves it."
All entries must be framed and have a wire or hangar attached.
The minimum photograph size is 8 by 10, and maximum is 16 by 20.
The entry fee is $5 per two works for adults and professions. Multiple entries within a category or across multiple categories are allowed. A $2 fee is charged for juniors.
Cash prizes will be available for the categories of: grand prize, selfie, special technique, black and white and cutest pet, as well as first through third and honorable mention for adult and junior divisions.
Whitworth also welcomed input on the competition.
"I encourage the public to give me ideas on what they would like to have in this contest," he said.
