Q. Where/what did you study in school?

A. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master’s degree in Reading through Hannibal LeGrange University.

Q. Why did you get into teaching?

A. I wanted to make a difference. I had many wonderful teachers throughout school. One teacher, Connie Ogle, made the biggest difference. I didn’t know if I could do it or not, I was an introvert and self-conscious. Ms. Ogle believed I could, without a doubt. In my young world, she was one of the smartest people I knew, so she must be right. Therefore, I did! She created an environment that was strict and structured, but loving and encouraging. It was the perfect environment to develop a love of learning and confidence.

Q. What’s your favorite part of teaching?

A. That “aahhaa” moment when they learn something new.

Q. What’s the most challenging part?

A. Sometimes there are outside situations that you want to fix, but you don’t have any control over. That is the most challenging part of teacher.

Q. What would you tell a student who is thinking about becoming a teacher?

A. Oprah once said that every child deserves to have an adult in their lives where their eyes light up when they see that child. Be that person. Love learning and share that joy through teaching. It is NOT an easy job, if you do it well. However, it is a very rewarding job.
