A Poplar Bluff man sits in the Butler County jail after he allegedly stabbed his roommate.

Mason T. Dilport, 21, of Piedmont is charged with the Class A felony of first-degree assault and the unclassified felony of armed criminal action in relation to an incident that took place on Friday, Aug. 20.

According to the probable cause statement from Poplar Bluff Police Patrolman Zachary Tubb, at 6:43 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, he responded to the 900 block of West Pine Street in reference to a subject covered in blood stating that his roommate had tried to kill him.

When Tubb arrived, he contacted Joaquin Diviney, who was bleeding from the right side of his upper back and his upper right chest. His clothing, boots and the ground near him were reportedly saturated with blood.

Diviney reportedly told Tubb his roommate, identified as Dilport, entered the common area of Diviney’s residence in the 1000 block of Nooney Street and stabbed him once in the back while Diviney was sitting on the couch watching TV. The knife reportedly entered the upper right back and exited just under Diviney’s collarbone.

Diviney stated that Dilport fled east on Jefferson Avenue and allegedly placed the knife used in the stabbing in a trashcan in the 900 block of Fairmount Street.

Tubb reportedly contacted Dilport at 2:36 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, in the 1400 block of North Westwood Boulevard and took him into custody. Dilport allegedly told Tubb that Diviney used narcotics at the residence, which bothered Dilport. He said he stole a kitchen knife from a store the previous evening and planned to kill Diviney with it. He then allegedly confessed to the stabbing after saying he saw Diviney using narcotics while sitting on the couch.

Dilport is currently being held without bond in the Butler County jail.
