The Apostle Peter made a wise observation about life when he wrote: "He that will love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking guile. Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace and ensue it." Peter 3:10, 11.
Life's greatest joy and deepest meaning is found in our relationship with God and our fellowmen. Therefore if we would love life and have it filled with joy and blessedness, then we must cultivate deep reverence and love for God and love and respect for all our fellowmen. If we have genuine love and respect for them we will seek to understand them, and withhold harsh or critical remarks that would hurt or belittle them.
Without love it takes but little practice to become adept at pointing out their faults. Furthermore, if we would love life we must have something good and pure and holy to live for, and something constructive to do. As Christians we must love everyone unselfishly, and in serving them a the need arises discover the enduring joy of being a disciple of Jesus.
We are to eschew evil-shun, avoid and abstain from that which is wrong, the Apostle says. That is not enough, we must do good.
We are to seek peace and pursue it. We are to not only desire peace with God and our fellowmen, we re to actively promote it by being kind, considerate, helpful, loving and forgiving.
If everyone would follow the advice given by the Apostle in the above verses there would be few suicides and homicides committed, for all would love life and see good days as they loved and served God and their fellowmen.
