The American Legion, the largest Veterans organization in the nation, according to long time Commander of Post No. 153, Dan Self, is hoping to bring some new life to their organization.

The Legion states in its literature that they are committed to mentoring youth, as well as sponsoring programs in the community that advocate for partiotism and honor.

The legion takes part in many local wholesome community programs, but is devoted to service members and veterans.

Local business owner Cindy Boyers recently donated a sign to Post 153 that formerly belonged to Heartland Furniture Store.

Self wants local residents to know the legion is open to all veterans who are honorably discharged, but as the child or spouse of a veteran one can also be involved in the organization. “Younger members aren’t as interested it seems, our average age is upper 60’s,” said Self. It is the hopes of current members of the legion that more people young and old will seek to become involved.
