Milder temps are on the way for the weekend so there’s no better time to pack up the kids and have some fun together while the weather’s nice. Milder temps are on the way for the weekend so there’s no better time to pack up the kids and have some fun together while the weather’s nice. I found plenty of kid-friendly fare for your to-do list this weekend including a free movie, free drawing class, a small town homecoming and a couple of citywide yard sales in our region. At the end of the column I’ve included a quick and easy throw together recipe for a packable snack the whole family will enjoy.

• FREE MOVIE - The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library will host a free showing of the movie “Aladdin” at 1 p.m. Friday in the library. Snacks will be provided. Please contact the library for more information.

• FREE DRAWING CLASS - The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library will be offering a free Drawing 101 class for children ages 8-14 from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday in the library basement theater. Instructor Tara Brown will be on hand to work with participants on shading, dimension and composition in creating artwork. All supplies are provided.

• QULIN HOMECOMING — The 28th annual Qulin Homecoming is set to begin at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Qulin’s Lions Club Park. There are plenty of activities planned to entertain the entire family with a parade, music, food, corn hole tournament, games, crafts, cake auction and so much more.

• DONIPHAN CITYWIDE YARD SALE — Current River town, Doniphan, in Ripley County, will be hosting tons of yard sales, food vendors and events on Saturday. The main area of sales will begin at Rocky River Resort and wind through the city parks, KC’s On the Current frontage property, past the old Fred’s area and up to Ruby’s Antiques. Heritage Park will also be open to yard sale vendors. Food vendors of all varieties will be set up throughout the area. A Pickin’ on the Square event is planned for Saturday evening on the square at the Courthouse Circle where attendees will enjoy music, food and entertainment.

• VAN BUREN CITYWIDE YARD SALE — The City of Van Buren in Carter County is also hosting an all day citywide yard sale Saturday. This annual event is popular with locals and out-of-towners alike. Treasures for every member of your family are sure to be found among the variety of offerings sold by the vendors.

• TO-GO SNACKS RECIPE — Toss together equal parts of your favorite teddy-shaped graham cookies, popped popcorn, peanuts, dried berry cereal and sourdough pretzel nuggets in a large lidded container. Dole out the mix into individual snack-size zip bags and you’ve got a travel-with-you finger food in a flash. Tailor the mix to whatever dry snacks and flavors your crew likes best. The combinations are endless.

Whatever you choose, have some fun checking off your own to-do list this weekend.
