Authorities continue to investigate a Tuesday night shooting that left a Poplar Bluff man with what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of North 11th Street, according to Poplar Bluff Police Lt. Josh Stewart.

No suspect, he said, is in custody at this time.

A 55-year-old man, Stewart said, was standing on a porch when he was shot. A bullet, he said, struck the outer portion of the man’s arm.

The victim was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and later flown elsewhere for further treatment, said Stewart. The extent of the man’s injuries reportedly are not known at this time.

“(He) says he heard shots and saw muzzle flash from an alleyway,” said Stewart.

Evidence indicates “definitely more than one shot was fired,” Stewart said. “There are indications multiple shots were fired.

“The house, a vehicle and the victim were all three struck.”

Several rounds struck the home, but “none of them actually penetrated through into the interior of the home,” Stewart explained.

The Poplar Bluff Fire Department supplied a ladder Tuesday night so investigators, Stewart said, could try to recover projectiles, which hit higher up on the home.

The vehicle, which was struck, was parked between the alleyway and the home, Stewart said.

“There were several casings located in that area of the alleyway,” Stewart explained.

At the time of the shooting, Stewart said, there were other people in the home.

“They indicated (the victim) was just out there talking on the phone” when he was shot, Stewart said.

Investigators, he said, still are actively working the case, but they have “no new leads at this point.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police department at 573-785-5776.
