Stoddard County officials have said a Dexter homicide victim was stabbed, but no other new information has been released.

An investigation into the death of Jimmy Lynn Casey, 66, began after a home-health worker found his body June 28 at his residence in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street.

Officials cannot release many details because the investigation is ongoing, according to Dexter Police Capt. Hank Trout.

Coroner Kenny Pope has confirmed Casey sustained more than one wound, but could not comment on the number of wounds. An autopsy was completed June 29.

"Mr. Casey was stabbed," Pope said. "We do know from the wounds he had, one of the wounds was not superficial. It was life threatening."

Police continue to investigate multiple leads and work with other agencies, but the Stoddard County Major Case Squad has been disbanded, Trout said.

Casey is believed to have died in the evening of June 27 or morning of June 28. He last spoke by phone with a family member in the early evening of June 27, Trout said.

"It's very tragic. We haven't had anything like this that's happened around this area, that's happened to that extent," Pope said. "Somebody was motivated to kill him, we know that."

Police continue to seek the public's help in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Trout or Lt. Cory Mills at 573-624-5512.
