Officials say a microburst caused damage Sunday evening to two homes in the Qulin area.
A brick home on Highway 53, four miles north of Qulin, and a mobile home in the same area both suffered roof damage, said Craig Meador with the Poplar Bluff Severe Weather Response Team.
Initial reports are that the damage was caused by a microburst of high winds around 7:17 p.m., according to Meador.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning at 7:16 p.m. for southeast Missouri, warning residents that a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Qulin, nine miles northeast of Poplar Bluff, moving at 20 miles per hour.
The storm had radar-indicated rotation, the NWS reported. It was expected to impact the Qulin area at 7:25 p.m. An updated report issued at 7:34 p.m. put the storm near Glennonville, and reported a weather spotter-reported funnel cloud.
For the rest of the week, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are forecast each day, primarily
during the afternoons and evenings, according to the NWS. Lightning and heavy rain will
be the primary daily storm hazards.
“In addition, the building heat and humidity will combine to produce triple-digit heat indices almost daily,” the NWS reported. “A heat advisory has been issued for Monday.”
A peak afternoon heat index of 105 degrees is predicted.
