Butler County Health Department held its first-ever Outreach Day on May 6, and not even a constant drizzle dampened attendance.
“I think it’s a great turnout for our first,” said health educator Amy Bland.
The event brought in organizations including FCC Behavioral Health, Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health, Boys and Girls Club of the Heartland, South Central Missouri Community Action Agency, Women Infants and Children, Missouri Highlands Medical Clinic, Butler County Prevention Coalition and the University of Missouri Extension. Each group set up booths offering a variety of services, including vaccinations. BCHD also received piles of essentials from the SEMO Food Bank, which were distributed by volunteers from The Bread Shed.
Due to the high turnout, the Health Department is considering making Outreach Day an annual event. Bland said she could make no promises, but noted, “We are talking about it.”
BCHD provides dozens of services for children, adults and seniors, including education, immunizations, family planning, STD testing, health screenings and pre- and postnatal support for mothers and children.
