The Neelyville elementary schools at both Hillview and Neelyville will have Halloween parades for parents to attend Monday, Oct. 31. The time for the parades have not been set.
Hillview students will march in the gym. Neelyville Elementary students will walk in the multipurpose room gym. Parents will not be allowed to wear a costume.
Plans for the programs were announced during the Neelyville School Board meeting Thursday, Oct. 20.
The board discussed implementing the Handle With Care program through the Butler County Community Resource Council to support students exposed to trauma.
Suicide Prevention and Awareness Plan was approved. The purpose of the plan is to protect the health and well-being of all students in the district by having procedures in place to prevent, assess the risk of, intervene in, and respond to suicide. This plan is aligned with board policy JHDF: Suicide Awareness and Prevention.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is offering a grant with the maximum of $500,000 per project with a 50% match. Projects to be included in the grant application are lights for the ballfields, playground improvements and equipment. The grant application is due by Nov. 16.
The Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan (SRCSP) was approved with no changes.
The board approved the purchase of a Kiln and power amp from the music and art fund:
Board members learned Tiger Fest Oct. 15 was a successful community event. Thank-yous were offered to Rice Trailers for the use of their trailer for the stage, Smith Mobile Homes for the stairs to the stage, and all involved for making the event a success.
BOE members are required to complete a one hour refresher training annually and the board was offered an option from the Missouri Association of Rural Educators (MARE).
School board members Jill McGruder and Robert Burgett attended the recent JAG Initiation and Installation Ceremony. Thank-you cards were presented from the Ellen Shands and Lucy Pennington Family, the Hagood Family and Neelyville JAG.
In Superintendent Heather Black’s facilities/maintenance report, she said, flag poles will be added to the ballfields.
When the board learned two buses are under lease with a transfer date of June 2023, the superintendent was asked to request bus bids.
The paraprofessional position vacancy is to be posted.
The next board meeting will be Nov. 17.
