BROSELEY — The Twin Rivers R-X School District is in the market for a used bus and the Board of Education gave Bus Mechanic Jeff Snider the “green light” to look for options during their meeting Tuesday evening.
According to Superintendent Jeremy Siebert, the district had a bus engine fail and with the spring season approaching, a extra bus will be needed.
“I don’t want to buy a new (bus) right now, a used one will be a big enough hit on the budget, but it’s something we need to do,” Siebert said.
While out of school for flooding issues earlier this month, Siebert reported to the board a neighboring school district was able to purchase a used bus at a very low price from a government surplus auction website.
The district was not able to secure a bus from the website, but Snider has been in contact with the company in the event of another opportunity.
Snider is also looking into the cost of switching the motor and transmission from a bus being used for storage to another bus experiencing engine troubles.
__IMPORTANT DATES__
School days missed due to flooding will be added to the end of the school year calendar with the last day now being Monday, May 20.
During last month’s meeting, the board approved summer school beginning May 20.
The board approved revising summer school to begin Tuesday, May 28 and running through Monday, June 24.
__SIEBERT’S REPORT__
Siebert reported to the board the parking barrier fencing at Fisk had been completed as well as repairs to a hole in the back near the residential area.
Fencing work has not began at the high school campus as of yet. The height of the fencing is still being discussed.
Siebert also informed the board the original quote for new bleachers in the high school gym following water damage did not include new wheels.
New wheels for the bleachers will cost $7,400, which Siebert added were needed to not scratch the new gym floor.
About $6,000 is in the bleacher fund from selling seats and will be put toward the wheel’s cost.
