Genealogical group cancels March meeting

The Genealogical Society of Butler County met Feb. 27 at the First United Methodist Church, but will not meet in March for the health and safety of all.

Marsha Morse’s February program began last September when a person came to her farm saying an ancestor was buried on that property.

After investigating her property, doing extensive research, and using dowsing rods, a total of 15 graves were discovered.

Of these, eight graves were male and seven were female. Using census records, five graves were identified and a death certificate which gave the name of the cemetery on her property.

The location was named Morton-Lambert family cemetery.

Linda Surber talked about the Book in the Bluff, “All the Light We Cannot See,” written by Anthony Doerr, which takes place during World War II. It’s being sold at Kroger, Gift Chest and Artfully Framed.

Visitors were Bob and Sharon Shewmake of Bell Vista in northwest Arkansas. They are looking for connections with the George W. Hill family. Linda Perkins, another visitor, was looking for information on her Conklin line.
