School is out, but learning is always in session.
Kids and teens can try an ancient form of Japanese pottery and see exotic animals in person this weekend.
The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library is teaching teens Kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using gold, at their Break and Make Kintsugi Art Program. This event is held at the Ridgel Branch at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9. Limited supplies are available and will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis.
Kids who prefer nature to art can visit Hendrickson Park that same day for a Live Animal Show with Bob Tarter of NHECM: Animalogy. Previous animal ambassadors have included bats, hedgehogs, owls and raccoons. Tarter is a talented speakers who brings humor and education together in his shows. The show begins at 4 p.m. If the weather is bad, the program will be moved inside to 1500 N. 13th Street, the Parks & Recreation’s annex building.

— Grille It Up 5 p.m. July 8 and 8 a.m. July 9. WHERE East Park, Dexter. COST Entry is free. WHAT Car lovers, barbecue enthusiasts and anyone seeking a good time are invited to this year’s Grille It Up for a car show, mud volleyball tournament, live music and food on the evening of July 8. A St. Louis BBQ Society cook-off begins early July 9. Cash prices are up for grabs.

— Missouri Concealed Carry Permit Course, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 16. WHERE Black Belt Academy of Poplar Bluff COST $75 WHAT This course meets the requirements to apply for a Missouri Concealed Carry Permit. It will cover firearms safety, maintenance and storage. We will discuss the laws that pertain to the use of force and weapons. The class will conclude with a live fire practice and test. Students will need: a handgun, semi-automatic or revolver, at least 40 rounds of ammunition, eye protection, hearing protection and clothing appropriate for the weather as the shooting portion of the class is held outdoors.
