Four people were injured, three seriously, in a pair of accidents Monday on area roads.

The first accident occurred at 4:08 p.m. Monday on Highway W, two miles north of Poplar Bluff, while the second occurred at 8:15 p.m. Monday on Stoddard County Road 717, 1-1/2 miles east of Bernie.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report of the first accident, Gayla J. Goins, 58, of Poplar Bluff was operating a 2021 Toyota Highlander northbound on Highway W when it crossed the center of the roadway and struck a southbound 2007 Ford F150 truck operated by Richard R. Wiegers, 71, of Branson.

Goins sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, while Wiegers and another passenger in his vehicle, Catherine M. Wiegers, 69, of Branson both sustained serious injuries and also were taken by ambulance to PBRMC.

According to the Highway Patrol’s report on the second accident, Kimothy T. Orr, 56, of Dexter was operating a 1999 Ford Explorer northbound on County Road 717 when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Orr sustained serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to St. Louis University Hospital.
