A fundraiser will be held Saturday at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum to benefit the museum and sculpture garden.
The Friends of the MHAM will hold the Fork and Cork from 5-9 p.m. with food by Tasteful Creations and entertainment by the band The Millstones.
Tickets are $30 for members and $35 for non-members. They can be purchased in advance at the museum or at the door.
The Friends group contributes support for the museum's monthly budget, as well as funding the pieces in the sculpture garden, said director Steve Whitworth.
A sculpture cast in bronze and commissioned from local artist Ralph Freer is next for the garden, which sits behind the historic museum building.
The fundraiser is among several events being held by the museum in the next two months, Whitworth said.
It will also offer a children's art class from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday featuring nail and string art. The cost is $10.
A book signing by Pulitzer Prize-finalist Gregg Jones will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 30. Jones is a Poplar Bluff native and has published three nonfiction books, on Vietnam, war in the Philippines and the Philippine guerrilla movement.
Jones graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1977. After college he became a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times and other papers. He has reported on military operations in Pakistan and Afghanistan following the Sept. 11 attacks and covered civil wars and other events while based in Asia for 10 years. Jones currently lives in Plano, Texas.
The museum will also host a reception from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 30 for Rose Anne Huck, who has won a Woman of the Arts recognition award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Huck's work includes both graphic art and fine art.
The annual Poplar Bluff Artists' Guild Regional Juried Art Exhibit will begin taking entries Oct. 28, with an opening reception and award presentation to be held Nov. 5.
The museum is open from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
