The Butler County Health Department has scheduled several flu shot clinics throughout October.
The flu shots, according to Amanda Fitzwater, are free to all county residents.
The first clinic will be held Oct. 15 and 16 at the department’s office, located at 1619 N. Main St.
The clinic will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, Fitzwater said, however, anyone wishing to get a shot must call ahead to schedule an appointment.
“Due to COVID, we’re trying to keep the amount of people in the building down to keep our community safe,” Fitzwater said.
The second clinic of the month has been scheduled for Oct. 21 at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.
That clinic will take walk-ins from 3-6 p.m., with no appointment necessary.
The later time frame, Fitzwater said, should help “anybody who works to get in.”
The following day, on Oct. 22, another clinic will be held at Neelyville High School.
The Neelyville clinic also will be open to walk-ins and will run from 3-6 p.m.
The last flu shot clinic currently on the schedule in Butler County will take place Oct. 28 at the health department office.
The clinic will be held outdoors and feature a drive-thru process, Fitzwater said, and will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
No appointment is necessary for the drive-thru clinic, Fitzwater said.
Flu shots, Fitzwater said, are important, especially this year, “to protect your family, yourself and your community from the flu.
“It especially helps reduce the burden on the health care system responding to COVID-19.”
Fitzwater also said it is important to continue taking other precautions, just like with COVID-19, to help prevent the spread of the flu.
“Wash your hands and do your everyday preventative actions,” she said.
