STODDARD COUNTY — Five people were injured, one seriously, in a one-vehicle accident at 11:10 p.m. Monday on County Road 249, one-half mile south of Highway PP in Stoddard County that allegedly involved alcohol.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Dawson B. Duckworth, 19, of Dexter was operating a 2018 GMC Sierra truck northbound when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest in the roadway.
A passenger in Duckworth’s truck, Nerissa Gurley, 20, of Portageville, sustained serious injuries, while Duckworth and three other passengers — Kailee Powell, 20, of Dexter, Bryce Johnson, 20, of Dexter and Stephany Kelley, 20, of Ellsinore — sustained moderate injuries.
Gurley was taken by Air Medical to Saint Francis Medical Center, while Duckworth, Kelley and Powell were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center and Johnson was taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
At 12:06 a.m. Tuesday, Duckworth was arrested by the MSHP on suspicion of felony DWI with injury, no seat belt and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. He was released for medical treatment.
