And the rockets...no glare?

Many people left the Poplar Bluff Independence Day Celebration scratching their heads Thursday night, because after patiently waiting, there was no fireworks display.

Troy Wisdom with Gladiator Pyro was not available for comment to explain what the technical difficulties were.

In a message published on social media, Morgan McIntosh, director of Downtown Development & Membership Services, said the fireworks display would be moved to 9 p.m., Saturday, July 6.

“I’m not exactly sure what the issue was,” Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce President Steve Halter remarked. “The only thing we were told is that there were technical difficulties.”

McIntosh explained that the decision to postpone the festivities was made out of consideration for everyone waiting to see the fireworks.

“I really don’t know what the difficulty was, but after about 30 minutes of trying to get it going, the decision was made to move it rather than keep it going further late into the night,” McIntosh explained. “Hopefully everything will be fine for Saturday.”

McIntosh explained that the fireworks are scheduled to begin after 9 p.m. or dusk and they will be fired from Ray Clinton Park — which will be closed to the public.

“No one is allowed in the park during the fireworks as it is closed to the public during the event,” McIntosh stated. “But anyone on just the other side of the river will have a perfect seat and all are welcome and encouraged to watch and enjoy.”
