Poplar Bluffians have two choices for community events in this week’s MAIN EVENT.
FRSH WATR worship night returns to the Rodgers Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday evening. This quarterly gathering invites attendees of all ages and denominations for an evening of uplifting Christian music by local musicians. There is no cost to attend. Saturday brings the heat with the Mason-Dixon Chili Society Chili Cook-Off — the 17th iteration of this spicy Poplar Bluff tradition. Proceeds benefit the United Gospel Rescue Mission. Admission is free, but donations and pledges at your favorite chili booths will determine the winners. The event is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Black River Coliseum. May the best chef win!

— Poplar Bluff Trivia Night, 5 p.m. Feb. 23 WHERE Holiday Inn COST Six person team of six, including dinner, $120. WHAT Sponsored by the Three Rives Endowment Trust, this event raises money for scholarships to benefit Three Rivers students.
— Disney on Ice, 7-8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 WHERE Show Me Center, Cape Girardeau COST $21-$69. WHAT This presentation of Find Your Hero will tell Disney stories.
— Live2Lead, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 24. WHERE Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce. COST For Chamber members, $50 per person or three tickets for $125. For non-members, $75 per person. WHAT A simulcast leadership development summit. John Maxwell shares the stage with internationally recognized speakers to take attendees to a higher level of thinking and performance. — Cinderella, 2 p.m. March 4, 5, 11 and 12, and 7 p.m. March 3, 4, 10 and 11. WHERE Tinnin Fine Arts Center. COST $10. WHAT The Broadway production of Cinderella with music by Rodgers & Hammerstein comes to Three Rivers College. This Center Stage production is directed by Carlie Dillinger.
— Countryside Chevrolet Championship Rodeo, 7 p.m. March 3 and 4. WHERE Black River Coliseum. COST Tickets are $15-$20 via Ticketmaster and at the Coliseum box office. WHAT PRCA Pro Rodeo riders return to Poplar Bluff with broncos, bulls and barrel racing. Children 2 and under get in free.
— 85th Annual Kiwanis Pancake Day and Pancake Eating Competition, 10 a.m. March 4. WHERE Poplar Bluff Junior High cafeteria. COST Entry is $10. WHAT A pancake eating competition to benefit the all-abilities playground at Kiwanis Bacon Park. Contestants will race the clock to see who can devour a breakfast of six pancakes with butter and syrup, a bottle of water and a carton of milk first. — 8th Annual Author Fair, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 4. WHERE Poplar Bluff Municipal Library. COST Free admission. WHAT Meet local published authors, listen to guest speakers within the publishing industry and find your next favorite book. This year’s speakers are Michele Webb at 10:30 a.m., Gaëlle Freer at 12:30 p.m. and Katherine Gilbert at 2 p.m.
— Together 2023, 4-7 p.m. March 5. WHERE Fellowship Church. COST Free. WHAT A seminar for those who are married, soon to be married or want to be married someday. There will be two sessions led by special guest Ted Cunningham, who is delivering the Sunday morning sermons at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Dinner is included and guests can win free giveaways. — An Evening with the Hoggs, A tribute to James R. Hogg, 7 p.m. Saturday, March 11 WHERE Rodgers Theatre COST $15 WHAT Presented by Friends of the Poplar Bluff History Museum, this event will feature the music of James Linden Hogg.
