The Poplar Bluff chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host the 10th Annual Fields of Faith worship ceremony at 7 tonight at Mules Stadium.
Junior high, high school and college students from Poplar Bluff, area schools, church groups, sports teams and FCA huddles from across Southeast Missouri will gather with their peers to engage in worship, share stories about their faith and connect with local churches. The goal is to help young people become "bold in their faith," according to Three Rivers Area Representative Josh Mills.
"Fields of Faith is a unique worship service with student testimonies, college athletes and speakers from the community. We'll have Timmy Starnes from First United Methodist Church and Zach McAnulty of Heartland Christian Family Church," said Mills, who expects more than 2,000 to be in attendance.
Mills said he encourages local youth groups and churches of all denominations to partner with FCA and make Fields of Faith their usual Wednesday night service.
"Our follow-up, for students who connect with Jesus Christ for the first time tonight, is to get them plugged in with a youth group in the community," Mills said.
This will be the first Fields of Faith to be held at the new Mules Stadium. Last year, inclement weather moved the ceremony indoors at the Black River Coliseum. The first Fields of Faith was held in 2008 in the end zone of Derland Moore Field with approximately 1,000 students in attendance.
Mills said gates open at 6 p.m., with pre-service festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m. For questions, email Mills at joshmills@fca.org.
FCA is an interdenominational Christian sports ministry working to incorporate Christian values on and off the field.
