The public is invited to join the celebration of the Emergency Management Agency and their partners who share the commitment of safety for Butler County families during their annual banquet.

The banquet will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the United Gospel Rescue Mission, 400 S. Broadway.

In addition to the public, all first responders are invited to attend as well as EMA's partners; the Poplar Bluff Severe Weather Team, Southeast Missouri Search and Rescue, Southeast Amateur Radio Association, Butler County Health Department and AmeriCorps.

"It's important to get together outside of times of disaster," EMA Director Robbie Myers said. "Last spring was all hands on deck."

Whether a volunteer during the historic flooding last year or just interested in the event, Myers said anyone is welcome to attend.

The banquet will feature a special presentation of vintage photographs provided by the Lloyd Miler family.

Miler began civil defense, which was later renamed EMA and was involved with the group for over 30 years.

The Lloyd Miler award will also be presented to an individual who has shown extraordinary commitment to community safety.

"This is a time to get together, not just in times of need, and a chance to get to know one another," Myers said.

For questions about the banquet, call Myers at 686-8686.
