Hanford Ray Elder, 62, of Naylor, was taken into custody Sept. 18 while attempting to break in at a vacant structure on Highway 21 North.
According to reports the sheriff’s department was called to investigate a report that a man described as a “white male, tall and slim with gray hair” kicked in the front door of a home located on Highway 21 north.
The caller stated after kicking in her front door the man “walked inside, saw her, mumbled something and left.” She stated she then saw him go next door to the vacant building.
As the deputy was helping the woman try to repair her door, he heard a loud bang coming from the direction of the vacant building.
He observed Elder attempting to break off the lock with a large rock. Questioned, Elder told the deputy he was trying to find a place to stay.
