Local parents can learn valuable skills such as boosting their child’s self-esteem, effective ways to teach cooperation and discipline, and increased knowledge of psychology at the Butler County Community Resource Council’s free parenting class.
The eight-week course is provided free of charge and will be taught by licensed professional counselors. According to Abby Hanner of the CRC, the course is typically well attended.
“We have great reviews from attendants,” she remarked.
The instructors will discuss the long-term goals of parenting and give insight into how young children understand their relationship with their parents.
The class meets once per week during the eight-week term. The CRC offers a spring and fall course every year with spots filling up quickly. The spring session starts March 8.
Tuesday is the deadline to register.
The class also serves as a resource for referrals from physicians, courts and friends. Offered with attendance is a six-month follow-up with a social worker to ask questions and get into contact with resources.
The CRC boasts an evidenced-based curriculum and, “systematic training for effective parenting.”
Those interested can contact the CRC at 573-776-7830, extension 113. The class takes place at 644 Charles St. in Poplar Bluff.
Hanner reiterated the course’s availability to anyone who needs extra tips and tricks to navigate the complex challenges of parenthood.
