Renowned plein air artist Don Sahli, known for his use of vibrant color, will be the featured artist for the month of June at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum.

“We’re really excited about him. He’s been featured on the cover of ‘Artists Magazine’ and won all kinds of awards,” said museum director Steve Whitworth.

Sahli’s art display will begin with a reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the museum.

The display, Whitworth said, will continue through June 27.

While Sahli, based in Colorado, “comes to the area annually to conduct workshops, this is the first time we’ve had him at the museum,” Whitworth said.

Whitworth noted “color is the driving force” of Sahli’s compositions. “Folks who have always loved the impressionist painters, such as the French impressionists and American impressionists, they’re going to love his paintings.

“They’re just so bright and vibrant.”

Such use of color, Whitworth said, is “something that really gives an emotional reaction of happiness” to viewers.

And, there will be a lot on display, Whitworth promised.

“He’s going to fill up the museum with his artwork, and there will be many because he works small to medium in sizes,” he said.

All pieces in the display, Whitworth said, will be available for purchase as well.

“Everything will be for sale,” he said. “You can have really quality art at very reasonable prices, and it’s something you’ll cherish forever.”

Whitworth said the show is a “good opportunity to start an art collection or add to an art collection. It’s something to bring joy to the viewer and brighten a room.”

Prior to the art display, Whitworth said, Sahli will teach a three-day class June 1-3 at the museum annex, next door to the MHAM.

The $325 class will focus on color still life painting, but space will be limited. To sign up, contact Whitworth at the museum at 573-686-8002.
