David W. Madsen, 42, appeared before Presiding Circuit Judge Robert Mayer in Stoddard County for sentencing after a jury found him guilty of first degree statutory rape of a person less than 14 years old.

“We are very pleased with the sentence handed down by Judge Mayer,” said Stoddard County Prosecutor Russ Oliver in a statement. “It is a very appropriate disposition given the defendant’s status as a registered sex offender prior to the commission of this new sexual crime against a child. Due to the sensitive nature of this crime and to protect the identity of the victim, no further statement concerning this case will be made by the Office of Prosecuting Attorney”

Madsen was a registered sex offender when he was arrested in February 2017, according to earlier reports, for two 1999 convictions in Clearwater, Florida of lewd and lascivious behavior with a 14-year-old girl.

Madsen’s trial was held Feb. 14 and a jury deliberated for 15 minutes before finding him guilty, according to court documents.

Prior to sentencing, by a motion by Madsen’s attorney for a new trial was denied.
