The Butler County Women’s Democrat Club’s annual Ham and Bean Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the United Gospel Rescue Mission.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Jack Rushin will talk about Civility in Politics.

Max West calls the dinner “a country thing. It is just a get together which is a little bit different and brings all the democrats together.”

The mission has hosted the event for 30 years and prior to then, West entertained the group for at least two decades.

The menu includes corn bread, drinks and a variety of side dishes provided by the club members.

When the mission staff asked the group to use their facilities, West said the number of attendees was outgrowing her space and “we have used them every year since.”

The mission staff will prepare the ham and beans, West said. She along with Thelma Brannum and Marge Rushin agree the Democrat women will bring enough side dishes so there will be plenty for everyone who wants to attend.

West said, the women’s group always supports the mission and its work.

“I’d like to see the mission continue,” West said.

“We have a great time,” Marge Rushin said. “We are planning for a lot of participation. Everyone is invited.”
