Organizers say they are moving forward with the 20th Annual Juried Regional High School Art Exhibit, but have extended the deadline to turn in work.

The event was scheduled to be shown from April 5-26 at the Margaret Harwell Art Museum.

The deadline to turn in work has been extended from April 1 to April 7.

Judging will take place April 8, said MHAM Director Steve Whitworth.

“We will open the exhibit to the public starting on Tuesday, April 14,” said Whitworth. “We will resume regular hours then, and have our reception and awards on Sunday, April 19.

“This is all contingent to unforeseen government directives. I pray that good health is the norm for us all.”

This show is open to high school students and has six categories: painting, drawing, mixed media, three dimensional, fiber and photography.

Entries must be matted and ready to hang.

There is a limit of 12 entries per school.

A Best of Show will be awarded along with first, second and third place for each category. Cash prizes will also be awarded, including $200 for Best of Show.

The opening reception is planned for 1-4 p.m. April 14, with awards presented at 2 p.m.

The museum is currently open from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The current show can still be viewed, Whitworth said.

The museum is allowing visitors, but in groups with no more than 10 people. Hand sanitizer is available and surfaces are being cleaned, he said.
